About project

A Novel, Low cost, Eco friendly Composite Particle Board from Sugarcane Bagasse and Corn Cob

Sustainable building materials, low technology methods and affordable construction complying with comfort standards, has directed towards using natural fibers available in abundance for producing cost-effective, non-carcinogenic and biodegradable materials. As per USDA 153.4million metric tons(MMT) of sugarcane and 1039.73MMT of corn is produced worldwide. As per FICCI 24.5MMT of corn and 25.5MMT sugarcane is produced every year. Exploring the properties, of wastes generated from these, needed for the construction industry will boost the economy of the country providing employment, consuming less energy and reducing cost to greater extent. This project aims to develop a false ceiling material using a composite of sugarcane(Saccharum officinarum)bagasse(SCB) and corncob(Zea mays)(CC) with natural hoop pine resins(Araucaria cunninghamii) as adhesives.

About the competition

The International Sustainable World Energy, Engineering, and Environment Project (I-SWEEEP), is a science competition that collaborates with local, national, and international science fair organizations .It is a platform that bring together qualifying projects from various competitions. Scientific society of India is one such organisation that conducts regional and National level competition selecting top four projects across India and forwarding them to the international level
