II PUC Career Training Programmes 2014 – 15

Common Proficiency Test- For Commerce Students (ongoing programme)

A programme for those who aspire to pursue a career in Chartered Accountancy is Common Proficiency Test (CPT). The programme spans for six months and is open to the II PU students from commerce stream. The students are taught by both external and in-house faculty members. The syllabus is divided into two sessions, Session I consisting of Fundamentals of Accounting and Mercantile Law, and Session II consisting of General Economics and Quantitative Aptitude (including both Mathematics and Statistics). During these sessions, students are exposed to basic knowledge required for entry level examinations for Chartered Accountancy course. Students are also required to face three mock tests during the tenure of the programme and periodic feedback reports of their performance are provided to the parents. During summer (April-May), additional help is provided by offering extra classes and mock tests.

TheActrix: The ‘Annual Actors’ Theatre Workshop

When the classroom lights in Christ Junior College are put out for the day, the theatre lights come on. At Christ Junior College, theatre is celebrated, understood, experienced and loved. The Pierian Spring offers theatre training to the students with the expertise of professional theatre personalities. The main purpose of the workshop is to enable the participants to come up with a production of their own based on a theme. The workshop includes the following modules: exercises for voice modulation, team building and group dynamics, innovative use of props, managing back stage and impromptu acting. .

Communicare - Communication Workshop

English is a global language used to communicate, transact, express and emote in most parts of the world. Possessing excellent communication skills is a surefire way to mount the ladder of success and to be an excellent orator. And so, students are provided with an opportunity of honing their communication skills through a workshop. The training conducted by an expert in the field of communication, spans for a period of six weeks. The sessions include one hour of theoretical knowledge followed by hands-on activity. Students are trained in modules like use of innovative techniques in introducing presentations, appropriate gestures, body language, focus on time management and making appealing presentations. At the end of the workshop, participants are required to put in the knowledge obtained through an oral presentation.

Robotics Workshop

A two-day workshop on Robotics is conducted annually for II Pre University students under the aegis of Li2 Innovations Private Limited, an initiative of IISc. and IIT Alumni. The workshop focuses on building autonomous robots using microcontrollers. During the workshop, the participants are provided with a robotic kit and put through various sessions like basic anatomy of the robots, use of Arduino, an open source physical computing platform, controlling robots using computer keyboards and the like. The programme provides an opportunity for the students to look beyond the curriculum and apply the knowledge gained in designing and developing the product. .

Persona- Personality Development

The world we inhabit is an increasingly competitive one with people vying with one another in terms of skills. As every student is a valuable human resource, we provide an opportunity to excel through participation in a training programme that not only helps in the development of skills but also encourages one to shed inhibitions. The training programme conducted in collaboration with Fourth Wave – the People Concern, Bangalore is held for a week and is open to II PU students of all three disciplines, viz., Science, Commerce and Social Sciences. The four core areas considered for training are: Understanding the Self, Personal Interview, Group Discussion and Presentation Skills. Besides the handouts used for the modules, varied methodologies like case studies, debates, role plays, situation analysis etc., are also used that makes learning more effective.

Coaching for Law Entrance Examination – LST SPAN (ongoing programme)

Christ Junior College conducts an in-house law coaching programme in tandem with Law School Tutorial (LST), a premier institute in the field of law entrances and legal education to deliver that cutting edge to our legal studies aspirants. The course conducted by the LST faculty comprises of subjects like English, General Knowledge, Mathematics, Logical Reasoning and Legal Reasoning covered in three modules. An exclusive feature of this course is detailed mock analysis with National ranking, interactive e-learning through online ERP login MYLST.
