CHRIST JUNIOR COLLEGE, Bengaluru

Evolution of Educational Policies

CJC Heritage

From the initial stages, the college has taken steps in introducing training modules for teachers, induction programmes for the faculty and direct involvement of teachers in character formation through the Value Education programme.

In order to ensure Quality in Education, the Quality Monitoring Cell was formed in 2004 under the guidance of the present Christ University. At present, it functions as an intrinsic group that initiates effective changes in Teaching, Learning, Assessment, Empowerment and Collaborative Culture. Numerous workshops to enhance the skills were held and continue to be conducted for faculty enrichment by the Quality Monitoring Cell.

Quality measures in Teaching-Learning were initiated by every department of the institution. The First batch of computer training for teachers also commenced during the academic year 2005 with courses in software that complement classroom teaching and improved their administrative acumen. At present, every department undergoes in-house training as well as training from specialists in the field on a regular basis. Each Department conducts their weekly study circle where all the department members share new knowledge they have gained in their subjects and engage with the latest pedagogical developments. The Quality Monitoring Group also conducts sessions as well as annual reviews with every department to ensure that best practices in teaching are being used by them. Christ Junior College also provides an impetus for the career progression of their faculty members and favours their career growth.

Under the aegis of the various Heads of Departments, several initiatives were undertaken keeping the students in mind, such as systematic introduction of the Course Plan and the division of terms with various topics under each term. The revision programme was also included in the course plan along with revision practical test for the Science stream. Another initiative from the Departments was the Refresher course and the Bridge course for II PU and I PU students respectively. The Bridge course conducted at the beginning of the academic year is designed to reduce the learning gap between the X standard and I PU syllabi. The Refresher course for the II PU students at the beginning of the year is designed to reorient them for higher level learning. The Departments also involve in planning for the various tests and examinations.

Keeping in mind the major stake holders - the students, the college adopts a student centric approach in imparting education. Various reinforcement classes are conducted in order to cater to the diverse needs of an equally diverse student population. The institution strives towards developing skills namely societal, inter-personal and soft skills along with ensuring subject competency. The students are instructed through the use of the latest educational technology for an effective, wholesome learning experience.

To enrich the academic experience of students, the college initiated an online teaching system called the Learning Management System (LMS) in the year 2007. The programme was open to II PU students from 2008 and is in use till date. Through this system teachers upload resources, activities and communications through news forum for the benefit of the students. The students self learning is enhanced by round the clock access to this resource.

The culture of continuous improvement has evolved under the leadership of the Quality Monitoring Group and the Heads of Departments through student feedback, statistical analysis and data interpretation. The teachers receive systematic training and undergo assessment of their teaching performance to ensure that they recognize their role as process owners.

At Christ Junior College, we understand the importance of receiving feedback on our services. The major stakeholders, parents, teachers and students are directly involved in the process of feedback in the form of student council, parent-teacher meeting, student assessment of teaching-learning, teacher's self appraisal etc.
